BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins men's track and field team combined for seven top-10 and 15 top-25 finishes Saturday at the Tufts Cupid Challenge and the Widener Indoor Classic. The day was highlighted by a standout performance from the distance medley relay squad and a record-setting effort in the triple jump.
At Tufts, the Blue Jays' distance medley relay quartet of
Peter Murray,
Alex Colletti,
Shrey Chettiar and
Caleb Tenney delivered the top performance of the meet. The group placed fourth with a converted time of 9:53.78—the fourth-fastest mark in Division III this season (with all top four times recorded at this meet) and the third-fastest in program history.
At Widener, junior
Oluwademilade Adeniran led the way with a personal-best leap of 14.52 meters (47-7.75) in the triple jump. The mark earned him a fourth-place finish overall, the second-best jump among Division III competitors in the field, the 19
th-best mark nationally this season and the second-farthest jump in program history.
Alexander Williams added a top-25 finish in the event, placing 25
th with a 12.02-meter (39-5.25) effort.
In the pole vault,
Seth Wyzykowski secured a seventh-place finish with a clearance of 4.45 meters (14-7.25), marking the Blue Jays' next-highest field event finish behind Adeniran.
Sebastian Tangelson added two top-20 performances, finishing 19
th in the high jump (1.85m | 6-0.75) and 20
th in the long jump (6.23m | 20-5.25).
On the track,
Nash Minor paced a strong showing in the 3,000-meter run, leading four Blue Jays into the top 25—including three top-10 finishes. Minor placed second with a personal-best 8:33.42.
Nick Pham followed in fourth (8:35.07) and
Eli Merritt took ninth (8:40.67), with both runners also recording personal bests.
Lance Nicholls capped the group's effort with a 22
nd-place finish in 8:49.77.
Samson Dessalines added another personal-best performance, placing 18
th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.82. He later teamed with
Tyler Caswell,
Michael Long and
Matteo O'Malley to finish ninth in the 4x400-meter relay, as the quartet crossed the line in 3:24.68.
Johns Hopkins returns to competition Saturday, February 28, at the Centennial Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Franklin & Marshall College. Events at the Schnader Field House are scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.
