GETTYSBURG, PA – The Johns Hopkins wrestling team placed sixth at the 2025 Centennial Conference Championships at Gettysburg on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays earned three, fourth-place finishes among their eight individual entries and totaled 12.5 points on the day.
Â
The Merchant Marine Academy dethroned two-time champion Ursinus as the Mariners grabbed the team title with 82 points to narrowly edge the Bears, who finished second with 80.5 points. Muhlenberg (68), McDaniel (55.5) and Gettysburg (54.5) rounded out the top five in the team scoring.

Powell, Maurath, Pimental Place Fourth
The Blue Jays were led on the day by the middleweight trip of junior
Connor Powell (174), graduate student
Fritz Maurath (157) and sophomore
Freddy Pimental (149), who all placed fourth.
Â
Powell dropped his opening bout to eventual champion
Anthony Cerulli of Ursinus before bouncing back with a dominant 16-0 technical fall of McDaniel's
Avery Cummings in the consolation semifinals. After scoring an early takedown, Powell used four sets of nearfall points to lock up the technical fall victory. In the third-place match, he used a third-period escape to even his bout with Merchant Marine's Maxwell Corral (1-1), only to have Corral slip past him with a takedown in overtime (4-1).
Â
Maurath followed a nearly identical path as Powell as he dropped his opening bout to the eventual runner-up, but rebounded with a 24-9 technical fall of Muhlenberg's
Trey Miletics to move into the third-place match.  Maurath built a 9-3 lead at the end of one, pushed the margin to 14-3 after the second period and tacked on nine points in the third to fuel his technical fall. In the consolation final, he trailed 4-0 entering the final period, but used a pair of reversals to pull within 6-4 before falling by that score to Merchant Marine's
Edward Pinc.
Â
Pimental dropped a tight 6-4 decision to eventual runner-up
Ethan Composto of Gettysburg, but scored a 12-1 major decision of Merchant Marine's
Matthew Trinidad in the consolation semifinal on the strength of three takedowns, an escape, a penalty point and a point of riding time. Pimental was forced to medically withdraw from the tournament prior to the third-place bout against
Max Parnis of Ursinus.
Â
Johns Hopkins will return to action in two weeks when the Blue Jays travel to Messiah for the NCAA Regional Championships.
