BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins broke four pool records in its final tune-up before the NCAA Championships. The Jays broke a pair of relay records in addition to two individual records for
Avery Clapp.
Hopkins wasted little time re-writing the record book as the Blue Jays broke two records in the opening relay. Clapp,
Adam Sandid,
Jay Heymann and
Daniel Byrnes turned in a 3:01.37 in the 400 Free Relay to break the pool record by 1.25 seconds. In addition, Clapp broke the pool record in the 100 Free with his lead-off leg of 44.69. His time is also an NCAA B cut.
Josiah March followed with an NCAA B cut in the 500 Free as he finished in 4:29.12. Clapp then took down another pool record with another B cut in the 200 Free. He touched in 1:38.31, a career-best, and more than a second off the pool record.
Dylan Jewett then clocked in at 48.98 in the 100 Back for an NCAA B cut.
Bryce Lloyd turned the same trick in the 200 Back with a swim of 1:47.14.
The Blue Jays made it two-for-two in relay records with a time of 6:38.16 in the 800 Free Relay. The team of
Josiah March, Byrnes,
Larkin Helman and Clapp did the honors. The quartet's time crushed the record by 8.4 seconds and was also an NCAA B cut.
NCAA selections are scheduled to be announced on Wednesday, February 26 with the championships slated for March 19-22 in Greensboro, NC.
