BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins women's outdoor track and field team opened the season on Saturday by sending a contingent to both NC State and Navy.
Annie Huang recorded the fastest 800m time in Division III this season and
Erika Ezumba broke her own record in the hammer throw.
Raleigh Relays
Huang opened the season crushing her former personal-best in the 800m, shaving off just under two seconds, clocking a 2:08.63 at the Raleigh Relays. The Senior recorded the fastest time in Division III this season, running just under four seconds faster than the next best time (2:12.52), and the third-fastest time in program history.
Navy Invitational
Ezumba opened the season breaking her own school record in the hammer throw by over four meters. Her throw of 47.38m was good for second place and bested her own record of 42.70m. The junior's throw is also good for the fifth best in the nation this year.
Phoebe Williams, with her personal-best throw of 44.08m, now holds the second-best mark in program history.
Hopkins dominated the 5000m, grabbing six of the top 10 spots with
Storrie Kulynych-Irvin leading the charge with a personal-best 17:56.56. Joining the freshman in the top 10 was
Natalie Boquist (third | 18:12.59),
Amelia Giles (fourth | 18:17.41),
Rachel Allison (sixth | 18:52.95),
Anne Hiraki (seventh | 19:11.44) and
Lydia Tolerico (10
th | 19:18.81) with Boquist and Hiraki recorded personal bests in the event.
The Blue Jays grabbed another two first place finishes at the Navy Invitational, with
Emma Kothari holding a piece of both first-place finishes. The Junior crossed the line in 2:12.86 in the 800m, over two seconds ahead of the closest competition and the third-fastest time in the nation this season. Kothari, along with
Diana Valentini,
Lianne Saussy and
Ryan Bigelow also held a part of the Jays first-place finish in the 4x400m relay recording a time of 3:59.93.
Adriana Catalano led a group of Jays that finished two through nine in the 1500m. She ran a personal-best 4:34.62, finishing second. Joining her in the top 10 was
Carter Brotherton (sixth | 4:40.81),
Elena Blodnikar (eighth | 4:41.51) and
Aisling Callahan (ninth | 4:42.83). Brotherton and Blodnikar also recorded personal bests in the event.
The Blue Jays are back in action Friday, April 4, in the two-day Mason Spring Invitational hosted by George Mason in Fairfax, VA.
