ROSEMONT, IL – The Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse team placed three players on the 2025 All-Big Ten Team, one on the newly-created Big Ten All-Freshman Team and placed one player on the Sportsmanship Team as the league announced the all-conference team and special awards today.
 
Graduate student Scott Smith (defense), senior Logan Callahan (faceoff specialist) and junior Matt Collison were all named Second Team All-Big Ten, while Reece DiCicco (short stick defensive middie) was named to the league's All-Freshman Team.  In addition, graduate student Dylan Bauer was named to the Big Ten Men's Lacrosse All-Sportsmanship Team.
 
Smith, a co-captain on this year's team, grabs All-Big Ten honors for the third time in his career as he was a first team selection in 2024 and a second team honoree in 2023.  The anchor of the Blue Jay defense throughout the season, Smith counts one goal, 19 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers to his credit on the year.  Smtih leads the team in caused turnovers and ranks third in ground balls and becomes just the fifth Johns Hopkins player to earn All-Big Ten honors three times with his selection this season.
 
In his career, Smith has played in 65 games with 57 starts and has eight goals, one assist, 143 ground balls and 68 caused turnovers to his credit; he ranks second in school history with his 68 CTs.
 
Callahan has enjoyed the finest season of his career in 2025 and was the only faceoff specialist in the league named to the All-Big Ten Team.  He is just the third faceoff specialist in league history to earn a spot on the All-Big Ten Team (five total selections among three players).
 
In 13 regular season games, Callahan was 177-of-285 (.621) at the X with a team-high 101 ground balls to his credit.  He currently leads the Big Ten and ranks ninth nationally in faceoff winning percentage and also leads the league and ranks eighth nationally in ground balls per game (7.77).  His 177 faceoff wins this season are the most by a Johns Hopkins player since Hunter Moreland won 200 in 2018 and rank as the seventh-best total in program history.  In addition, his 101 ground balls are the most by a Johns Hopkins player since Drew Kennedy had 132 in 2014.
 
Collison is making his first appearance on the All-Big Ten Team with his selection.  He leads the team in points (31) and ranks second in goals (19) and assists (12) entering the Big Ten Tournament.  Collison was the only non-senior/graduate student among the four midfielders who landed a spot on the All-Big Ten Team this season and he sits just one point shy of 100 for his career as he counts 68 goals and 31 assists for 99 points to his credit.
 
For the first time, a 10-player Big Ten All-Freshman Team was selected with DiCicco earning a spot; he is the only short-stick defensive midfielder who earned a spot on the All-Freshman Team.  DiCicco has played in all 13 games and counts 14 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers to his credit.  He is tied for second on the team in caused turnovers and tied for fifth in ground balls.  DiCicco's 10 caused turnovers are the most ever by a Johns Hopkins freshman among non-long stick players.
 
Bauer has started all 13 games for the Blue Jays and counts 14 goals and five assists for 19 points to his credit.  One of three captains on the team, he has played in 55 games with 43 starts and has 37 goals and 28 assists for 65 points in his career.   Bauer is one of six Big Ten players named to the All-Sportsmanship Team with each of the six teams having one player honored.
 
Johns Hopkins will travel to Penn State on Saturday, April 26 to take on the Nittany Lions in the Big Ten Quarterfinals (12 pm / BTN+).
