Smith, Collison Nab USILA All-America Honors

Duo Honored by USILA for Third Consecutive Year

BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins placed two players – graduate student defenseman Scott Smith and junior midfielder Matt Collison – on the 2025 USILA All-America Team it was announced today.  This is the third consecutive year that each has been named a USILA All-American with both earning honorable mention status.

Smith becomes the first Johns Hopkins defenseman to earn USILA All-America honors three times since Tucker Durkin (2011-13) as he adds this year's selection to previous nods in 2023 (HM) and 2024 (1st Team).  He collected 21 ground balls and a team-high 15 caused turnovers to his credit this season and capped his career with eight goals, one assist, 145 ground balls and 70 caused turnovers in 64 career games played.  He ranks second in school history in career caused turnovers and adds the USILA All-America nod to selections as an Honorable Mention All-American by Inside Lacrosse and USA Lacrosse this season

With his selection, Collison becomes the first Blue Jay midfielder to earn USILA All-America honors three times since Joel Tinney (2015, 2017, 2018) and the first to be named as a freshman, sophomore and junior since Paul Rabil (2005-07).  Collison led the team in points (33) and finished second in goals (21) and assists (12) this season.  He counts 70 goals and 31 assists for 101 career points to his credit; he was also an Honorable Mention USILA All-American as a freshman (2023) and a third team honoree as a sophomore (2024).

The USILA All-America Team is the oldest All-America program in the sport of men's lacrosse.  Since the initial team was selected in 1922, and including the selection of Smith and Collison this year, Johns Hopkins has produced a national-record 587 All-Americans (185 first team / 114 second team / 95 third team / 193 honorable mention).  Collison's selection marks the 179th time a Blue Jay midfielder has garnered USILA All-America honors, while Smith becomes the 174th defenseman named to the team.
