BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins baseball program earned major accolades this week, as five student-athletes received D3Baseball.com All-America honors, announced Wednesday. Senior first baseman
Dillon Souvignier headlined the group, as the lone Blue Jay to be named to the First Team. It's the second time in program history (2010) Hopkins placed five on the D3Baseball.com All-America Team.
Souvignier was named to First Team, with
Drew Grumbles being named to the Second Team.
Jimmy Stevens and
Shawn Steuerer were named to the All-America Third Team, while
Grant Meert received Fifth Team recognition.
Souvignier capped off his senior season with his first First Team selection. The senior slugger leads the team in hits (77), slashing .423/.493/.780. He ranks second in RBIs (62), runs scored (59) and triples (3). He ended the regular season on a 13-game hitting streak, eight-game multi-hit streak and reached base in 38 of 39 games.
In a breakout sophomore campaign, Grumbles emerged as the Blue Jays' ace, earning All-America Second Team honors. He went a perfect 8-0 with a 1.75 ERA, allowing just 13 earned runs over 67.0 innings while striking out a team and conference-best 73 batters. The Maumelle, AR native struck out a career-high 11 in a win over Mount Union and spent much of the season leading all of Division III in ERA. He currently ranks seventh nationally with a 1.75 ERA.
Stevens received his first career All-America honor, landing on the Third Team after a dominant stretch in conference play. He slashed .371/.444/.914 and led the team with 10 home runs and 36 RBIs in league games. The New Albany, OH native leads the team in home runs (18) and RBIs (65) overall. In both title games – regional and super regional – Stevens combined to go 6-for-10 with three home runs, two doubles and eight RBIs.
Steuerer, a three-time All-America honoree, earned his second Third Team nod after posting a .375/.434/.729 line with 72 hits, 55 RBIs, 17 doubles, 17 home runs and a team-leading 65 runs. The Wellington, FL native reached base safely in 11 of the last 12 regular season games and made history with a two-run homer against Swarthmore by becoming the only Blue Jay and fifth active Division III player to reach 200 career RBIs and runs scored.
Meert, the first-time honoree, made an immediate impact in his first season as the Blue Jays' closer. The All-America Fifth Teamer leads the bullpen with six saves and 40 strikeouts across 21.2 innings, allowing only two earned runs and 14 hits. Most recently, the sophomore earned the save against CWRU, securing Hopkins' third Super Regional Title and seventh trip the Division III World Series, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings, surrendering just two hits while striking out two.
