COLLEGEVILLE, PA – The Johns Hopkins women's outdoor track and field team is leading the Centennial Conference Championship at Ursinus after the first day of competition. The Blue Jays earned three individual Centennial Conference titles, with
Erika Ezumba,
Clarissa Newman and
Storrie Kulynych-Irvin each claiming gold in their respective events. In addition, the team secured two silver medals and one bronze.
After the first day of scoring, Johns Hopkins has amassed 66 points, holding a commanding lead over second-place Dickinson, which has 12 points.
The Champions
Erika Ezumba (Hammer Throw) – Ezumba captured the gold medal with a personal-best throw of 53.95 meters, marking a meet, conference and school record, while also posting the ninth-farthest throw in the nation this season. This marks Johns Hopkins' third-ever medal in the hammer throw, with Ezumba joining two-time champion Julia Zambo as the only Blue Jays to win the event. In addition to her effort, junior
Phoebe Williams earned silver with a personal-best 48.37-meter throw – the second-farthest mark in school history and the 68
th-best nationally this season.
Clarissa Newman (Pole Vault) – In her first Outdoor Centennial Conference Championship appearance, freshman
Clarissa Newman won the pole vault title with a mark of 3.65 meters – the 35th-highest in the nation this season. In addition to earning gold, she set the Johns Hopkins freshman record in the event. Newman's victory marks the fifth consecutive year a Blue Jay has claimed the pole vault title and the 22
nd overall medal.
Sarah-Caulley Soto earned bronze, marking her third career medal in the event. In addition to their efforts, the Blue Jays grabbed fifth (
Cassidy Brown | 3.15 meters) and sixth-place (
Cassidy Woodham | 3.15 meters) finishes in the event.
Storrie Kulynych-Irvin (10,000 Meter) – Kulynych-Irvin dominated the 10,000-meter race, winning the championship in 36:53.73, finishing nearly 25 seconds ahead of her teammate. This marks the 10th Johns Hopkins victory in the event and the first since 2018. Senior
Jamie Stelnik earned silver with a time of 37:17.95, securing the third-ever silver medal for the Blue Jays in the 10,000-meter. In addition to their efforts, the Blue Jays grabbed fifth (
Triya Roy | 38:50.63), seventh (
Natalie Boquist | 39:30.30) and eighth-place (
Rachel Allison | 39:32.35) finishes in the event.
The Blue Jays are poised for strong finishes in the heptathlon, with four athletes in the top-eight after four events.
Claudia Ouimet is currently in second place with 2,744 points, followed by
Jaclyn Donoho in third (2,618 points),
Abigail Lovelace in fourth (2,499 points) and
Julia Widen in sixth (2,092 points). Ouimet also set a Johns Hopkins freshman record in the 100-meter hurdles, with a time of 15.22 seconds, the 98th-fastest nationally this season. Donoho posted a 1.63-meter jump in the high jump, ranking 27th nationally and securing the third-highest mark in program history. Lovelace's high jump of 1.57 meters also ranked among the top 10 in program history.
The Blue Jays return to action Saturday, May 3, for day two of the Centennial Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, with action scheduled to begin at 10:30 AM in the heptathlon's long jump.
