BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse coach
Peter Milliman announced today that
Chayse Ierlan, who has served as the program's Director of Operations since July 1, 2024, is transitioning to a role as an assistant coach. Ierlan joins a coaching staff that is led by Milliman and also includes associate head coach
Jamison Koesterer and assistant coach
Jon Cohen. Ierlan fills the position vacated by
Brian Kelly, who recently accepted a position as an assistant coach with the Stanford women's lacrosse program.
Â
"I could not be more excited about the addition of
Chayse Ierlan to our coaching staff," Milliman stated. "While he perfected his craft as one of the top goalies in the nation in college and has continued to play at a high level professionally, his understanding of the complete game and his demonstrated ability to teach and communicate is remarkable. We were fortunate to have him join the program, first as a player who made a significant impact there, then as our Director of Operations, where he was able to gain valuable insight into the operation of the program. He possesses every trait you could ask for in a young coach and I know our players will benefit immensely from his tireless work ethic and infectious passion for the game."
Â
In his new role, Ierlan will work closely with Milliman directing the Blue Jay offense while also lending his expertise to the Blue Jay goalies. Ierlan will have the opportunity to work with an experienced, yet still young, group of offensive players while helping guide a deep and talented group of goalies.
Â
Offensively, Johns Hopkins is due to return a significant number of its key contributors from last season. The Blue Jays will welcome back their top three, four of their top five and eight of their top 11 scorers from last season; remarkably, seven of those top eight have at least two years of eligibility remaining and four of the eight have three years remaining.
Â
In goal,
Oran Gelinas, who started the final seven games of the 2025 season, returns and will be joined by graduate student
Jack Webb, junior
Philip Verdi, sophomore
Andrew Cook and freshman
Dash Lamitie.
Â
While Milliman and Ierlan direct the Blue Jay offense, Koesterer will enter his sixth year as the Blue Jay defensive coordinator in 2026. Cohen, who also serves as the program's recruiting coordinator, will continue to assist Koesterer with the Blue Jay defense while also working with the faceoff specialists.
Â
Milliman and his staff will conduct a national search for a new Director of Operations.
