BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins men's soccer coach
Craig Appleby announced today that
William Vanzela has been promoted to associate head coach. Vanzela joined the Blue Jay staff in 2015 and is the first person in program history to hold the title of associate head coach.
"I can't express enough how valuable William is to this program," said Appleby. "I am thankful to be able to work with him and to call him a close friend. I am happy to see William promoted to associate head coach and rewarded for all the hard work he has put into the Johns Hopkins men's soccer program."
Since coming to Homewood in 2017, Vanzela has helped the Blue Jays to a 122-31-32 (.746) record. Hopkins has won three Centennial Conference Tournament titles, including back-to-back titles in 2023 and 2024. JHU has made seven consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances with a Sweet 16 appearance in 2017 and Elite Eight trip in 2022.
Vanzela has coached five goalies to All-Centennial Conference honors, including four first team selections. Four Blue Jay goalies have earned United Soccer Coaches All-Region honors and in 2017, Bryan See was named a Third Team All-American.
Hopkins will open the 2025 season on Friday, August 29 versus Rhodes in Sewanee, TN.
