DMR Runs Fastest Time in Division III this Season; Blue Jays Compete at the Dr. Sander Scorcher

Murray, Caswell, Krishnan, Chettiar Run Fastest DMR Time in Nation this Season

NEW YORK, NY – The Johns Hopkins men's track and field team delivered a strong showing Friday at the Dr. Sander Scorcher, hosted by Columbia University, recording some of the fastest times in Division III this season while competing in a field that featured numerous Division I programs. Day one was highlighted by the Distance Medley Relay quartet of Peter Murray, Tyler Caswell, Ani Krishnan and Shray Chettiar, who posted the fastest Division III time in the nation.
 
Murray, Caswell, Krishnan and Chettiar combined for a stellar performance in the Distance Medley Relay, finishing third overall in 10:11.63. The mark stands as the fastest time in Division III this season.
 
Hopkins added four more nationally competitive marks in the 3000m, including three top-25 finishes, led by freshman Caleb Tenney. Tenney placed fifth overall with a time of 8:08.04—the second-fastest mark in program history, the fifth-fastest time in the nation this season and the 23rd-fastest performance in Division III history. Anthony Clark followed with an eighth-place finish in 8:17.57, which ranks sixth in school history and 13th nationally this season. Cedar Nichols-Barnhart added a 23rd-place finish, clocking 8:28.43—the 33rd-fastest time in Division III this year. Olaf Dietz narrowly missed the top 25 with a 27th-place finish but still recorded the 36th-fastest time in the nation this season at 8:29.51.
 
Kenny Wanlass and Dane Spahr contributed two more top-25 finishes in the 3000m open. Wanlass ran a personal-best 8:37.30 to place fifth, a mark that ranks 57th nationally, while Spahr posted a personal-best 8:47.65 to finish 17th.
 
In the 60m hurdles, the Blue Jays earned two top-15 finishes from Caswell and Sebastian Tangelson. Caswell placed seventh in 8.69, while Tangelson finished 13th in 8.87.
 
Hopkins closed the day with a pair of top-25 finishes in the 400m dash open. Tangelson recorded his second strong performance of the day with a personal-best 52.18 to place 19th overall, and Michael Long followed in 52.36 to finish 24th.
 
Johns Hopkins returns to action Saturday, January 24, to conclude the Dr. Sander Scorcher. Events at The Armory are scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.
