FAIRFAX, VA – The Johns Hopkins men's track and field team turned in a strong showing on Saturday at the Patriot Games, hosted by George Mason University, competing against a field that included several Division I programs. The second day of the two-day meet was highlighted by standout performances in the throws, led by
Leo Anderson.
Anderson paced the Blue Jays' throwing contingent in the weight throw, as Hopkins recorded four top-15 finishes in the event. Anderson placed ninth with a personal-best throw of 13.91 meters (45-7.75), the third-farthest mark in program history.
Ryan Braga followed closely in 10
th with a 13.09-meter (42-11.5) effort, while
Alexander Yeon finished 12
th after posting a personal-best 12.26 meters (40-2.75), which ranks fourth all-time at Hopkins.
Ryan Jameson rounded out the group with a 14
th-place finish, recording the sixth-farthest throw in program history at a personal-best 11.66 meters (38-3.25).
In the shot put, Braga, Anderson and Yeon each earned top-15 finishes. Braga led the trio with a 10
th-place mark of 12.96 meters (42-6.25), followed by Anderson in 13
th with a 12.74-meter (41-9.75) throw and Yeon in 14
th at 12.68 meters (41-7.25).
Maxie Lin delivered a pair of top-10 performances in the horizontal jumps. He placed seventh in the triple jump with a 12.46-meter (40-10.5) effort and followed that with a sixth-place finish in the long jump at 5.98 meters (19-7.5).
Chance Simpson also earned a top-10 finish in the long jump, placing ninth with a personal-best mark of 5.64 meters (18-6).
In the pole vault,
Seth Wyzykowski and
Aidan Rothstein combined for two top-10 finishes. Wyzykowski placed seventh with a clearance of 4.30 meters (14-1.25), while Rothstein followed in eighth at 4.15 meters (13-7.25), matching his personal best.
On the track,
Ryan Zhang and
Jack Maier both recorded top-10 finishes in the 60-meter hurdles. Zhang finished sixth in 8.77 seconds, while Maier placed 10
th with a time of 9.00. In the 1000-meter run,
Matteo O'Malley took 10
th in 2:37.45, and
Samson Dessalines finished 12
th with a time of 2:43.09.
Hopkins was also represented in the heptathlon by
Sebastian Tangelson,
Wech Ring and
Alexander Williams. Tangelson delivered an outstanding performance, placing second overall with 4,666 points—the fifth-highest total in program history. Ring finished seventh with 3,279 points, while Williams placed ninth with 2,990 points.
Tangelson capped off his heptathlon with a first-place finish in the 1000-meter, posting a personal-best time of 2:48.33. He also recorded third-place finishes in the 60-meter hurdles (8.84) and the pole vault (3.84m | 12-7.25), the latter marking a personal best. Ring's top finish of the day came in the pole vault, where he placed eighth with a 2.74-meter (8-11.75) clearance. Williams recorded his best result in the 1000-meter, finishing seventh in 3:11.37.
Johns Hopkins returns to action on Friday, February 6, when the Blue Jays compete at the Fasttrack Invitational in Staten Island, NY. Events at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex are scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.
