Sarah Chilton scored on a penalty stroke just 1:42 into the second overtime to lift Johns Hopkins to a 2-1 win over 10
th-ranked Franklin & Marshall Friday night. The Blue Jays improve to 8-4 overall and 4-1 in the Centennial Conference, while the Diplomats fall to 8-3 and 2-2 in the CC.
Franklin & Marshall struck first, scoring with 3:55 to play in the second quarter. Megan Dadio dribbled just inside the circle and fired a shot to the back post to put the Diplomats up 1-0. After a back-and-forth first half, Hopkins controlled play in the third and tied the with 1:27 to play in the period.
Sophia Builione inserted a penalty corner to
Caeli Robinson, who took one touch before blasting a shot inside the left post.
The Dips turned the tables in the fourth quarter, but five saves from
Jessica Lapidus and a defensive save from
Emi Hakutani kept the teams tied at one. Meghan Dole then made a pair of saves in the first overtime to force the game to a second overtime. After an early corner,
An Tran drew the penalty stroke for the Blue Jays. Chilton beat Dole to the left post to win it for Hopkins. It is her fifth penalty stroke goal of the season, tying the school single-season record.
Hopkins finished with a 17-16 edge in shots and an 11-4 advantage in corners.
Aubrey Kilgore notched three saves in the first half and Lapidus finished with five through the second half and overtime. Dole tallied eight saves in the loss for the Dips.
Hopkins is right back at Homewood Field to take on fifth-ranked Williams on Sunday, October 11. The non-conference contest is scheduled for a 12:00 pm start.
