ST. PETER, MN – Johns Hopkins fell to fifth-ranked Case Western Reserve, 5-2, in the quarterfinals of the 2026 ITA National Team Indoor Championships. The Blue Jays fall to 0-1 on the season while the Spartans improve to 9-0.
Allen Gong and
Chakor Rajendra grabbed a 7-5 win over Trey Lambright and Bryce Ware at number one doubles. Anmay Devaraj and Rohan Bhat took a 6-3 win over
Joshua Kim and
Mukundh Boopathi at three. The doubles' point would come down to the match at two, where Leon Chen and Jon Totorica won a tight 7-6 (6) match over
Dylan Blenkiron and
Brian Yi.
Santiago Salazar Garza earned the first singles' point and pushed CWRU's lead to 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Rajendra at one. Rohat followed with a 6-4, 6-0 win at six over Kim. Totorica then beat Yi 6-3, 6-4 at five to put the Spartans up 4-0. Blenkiron answered with a 6-4, 6-2 win at three versus Devaraj to get the Blue Jays on the board. Ansh Shah pushed CWRU's lead to 5-1 with a 7-6 (1), 6-3 in over Boopathi at four. Gong closed out the match when he rallied to beat Matthew Plunkett 6-7 (2), 6-2, 1-0 (9) at two.
Hopkins will take on either Claremont-Mudd-Scripps or Swarthmore in the consolation round on Saturday, February 21.
Notes: Gong's two wins pushes his career total to 97 (46 singles, 51 doubles) and he needs three wins to become the 19
th player in program history with 100 wins.
