LEXINGTON, VA – Johns Hopkins fell to second-ranked Chicago, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon at Washington & Lee. The Blue Jays, facing their fourth top-10 team in the young season, slip to 3-2. The Maroons meanwhile to 6-2.
Chicago earned wins at two and three doubles to grab the doubles point and take the early lead.
Allen Gong and
Chakor Rajendra won their match at one, beating Albert Mackey and Shrikeshav Murugesan. Christian Liew and Jack Wong topped
Dylan Blenkiron and
Mukundh Boopathi, 6-3, at two. Alexander Ekstrand and Gopal Koduri won by the same score over
Pranav Gadiraju and
Brian Yi at three.
Murugesan won a tight 6-4, 6-4 match over Rajendra at one singles. Emil Grantcharov won another close one for the Maroons, beating Gong 7-6 (2), 6-4 at two. Ekstrand took a 6-2, 6-4 win over Blenkiron at three.
Ajer Sher grabbed a three-set win at four, winning 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 over Boopathi.
Jason Li got the Blue Jays on the board when he won 6-3, 7-6 (4) over Timothy Nguyen at five singles.
Joshua Kim took a three-setter over Mackey at six, 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (8).
Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, March 18 at Pomona-Pitzer.
