STATEN ISLAND, NY – The Johns Hopkins men's track and field team turned in an outstanding performance Friday at the Fastrack National Invite at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex, competing against a strong field that featured programs from all three NCAA divisions. Junior
Alex Colletti highlighted the day with a pair of record-breaking performances on the track.
Colletti rewrote the Hopkins record book in both the 60-meter and 400-meter dashes. In the 60-meter, he broke the school record twice, first clocking a 6.87 in the preliminaries before improving to a personal-best 6.85 in the final. His time earned him second overall and ranked as the 20
th-fastest time in Division III this season, as he was the first Division III finisher in the race.
Colletti followed that performance with another historic showing in the 400-meter dash. Competing in a field of 149 athletes from all three divisions, he claimed first place with a personal-best 48.47. The time ranks 19
th nationally this season and stands as the fastest 400-meter performance in program history.
Hopkins also posted four top-25 finishes in the 60-meter Open in a field of 106 competitors.
Colin Harte led the group with a third-place finish in 7.095, while
Josh Lee followed closely in fourth with a personal-best 7.10.
Spencer Ye placed 18
th in 7.25 and
Carter Chui rounded out the group with a 21
st-place finish in 7.26.
The Blue Jays delivered another strong showing in the 800-meter, led by
Ani Krishnan,
Peter Murray and
Shrey Chettiar. Krishnan placed seventh in a field of 94 with a personal-best 1:53.86, the fourth-fastest time in program history and the 33
rd-fastest in Division III this season. Murray followed in eighth with a personal-best 1:54.53, ranking fifth all-time at Hopkins and 52
nd nationally this year. Chettiar was the first freshman to cross the line, finishing 12
th in 1:54.91, the eighth-fastest time in school history and the 58
th-fastest mark in Division III this season.
Spencer Ye added a personal-best performance in the 200-meter, clocking a 22.55 to post the 10
th-fastest time in program history. Action on the track concluded with the 4x400-meter relay team of Chettiar, Krishnan, Murray and
Samson Dessalines, which placed eighth while recording the seventh-fastest time in program history (3:23.20).
In the field events, Hopkins combined for 10 top-25 finishes, highlighted by two top-10 performances.
Oluwademilade Adeniran placed sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 14.24 meters (46-8.75), while
Seth Wyzykowski finished fourth in the pole vault, clearing a personal-best 4.55 meters (14-11). Wzyzkowski's mark ranks second all-time at Hopkins and 52
nd in Division III this season.
Aidan Rothstein added a 14
th-place finish in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.95 meters (13-0).
In the weight throw,
Leo Anderson,
Ryan Braga and
Alexander Yeon all finished among the top 25. Anderson placed 12
th with a personal-best throw of 14.25 meters (46-9), the second-farthest mark in program history. Braga followed in 14
th with a throw of 13.69 meters (44-11), while Yeon finished 22
nd with a personal-best 12.46 meters (40-11), the fourth-farthest throw in school history.
Braga earned his second top-20 finish of the meet in the shot put, placing 18
th with a throw of 12.99 meters (42-7.5).
Ryan Jameson added a 22
nd-place finish with a personal-best mark of 12.70 meters (41-8).
Carter Chui and
Chance Simpson closed out the field events with top-25 finishes in the long jump. Chui placed 19
th with a personal-best leap of 5.97 meters (19-7), while Simpson finished 23
rd with a personal-best jump of 5.78 meters (18-11.5).
Johns Hopkins returns to action on Friday, February 13, at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, hosted by Boston University. Events at the Track & Tennis Center are scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.
