Johns Hopkins Blanks 24th-ranked NYU, 7-0

BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins returned to the court after more than a month and made its home debut against 24th-ranked NYU. The Blue Jays made it a clean sweep in a 7-0 win over the Violets Saturday afternoon. JHU picks up its first win of the season to improve to 1-2 while NYU has its three-match win streak snapped to fall to 5-3.
 
Claire Loftus and Sahana Madala took the first match of the day as they beat Norah Staunton and Sophia Wright, 6-1, at third doubles. Kamila Wong and Ava Li secured the doubles' point with a 6-4 win over Emma Kast and Victoria Wang at second. Syndey Langer and Lia Melvin then completed the sweep when they beat Visnja Gusavac and Sophia Yang, 6-4, at first.
 
In singles, Li needed just 13 games to grab a win over Vera Bondarenko at fourth and put the Blue Jays up 2-0. Langer followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Kast at sixth and it was 3-0 JHU. Loftus clinched the win for Hopkins when she beat Yang 7-5, 6-1 at third singles. Melvin quickly followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win at first over Gusavac. Madala then beat Siona Vallabhaneni 7-5, 6-4 at fifth and Sophia Kim closed out the shutout win with a close 7-5, 6-4 win over Wang at second.
 
Hopkins returns to action on Monday, March 16 versus fourth-ranked Wesleyan in Hilton Head, SC.
