NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Johns Hopkins wrapped up the Natalie Pitts Memorial Invitational with a 6-1 win over 18
th-ranked Case Western Reserve. The Blue Jays push their win streak to five as they improve to 6-3 on the season. The Spartans meanwhile fall to 6-4.
Sophia Kim and
Lia Melvin grabbed the first win of the match as they beat Trisha Vellanki and Emma Thoms, 6-2, at two doubles. Ellior Rose and Katie Wong answered with a 6-2 win over
Sydney Langer and
Claire Loftus at three. The doubles' point came down to court one and it was the Blue Jays coming out on top as
Ava Li and
Kamila Wong edged Katalina Wang and Gabby Lee, 7-5.
Loftus gave Hopkins a 2-0 lead when she beat Tara Markovic 6-1, 6-2 at three singles.
Ava Li pushed the lead to three with a 6-0, 6-2 win at two versus Katie Wong.
Karah Li then clinched the win when she won 6-0, 6-3 over Rose at six. Langer followed with a 6-1, 6-4 win at four over Lee and Hopkins led 5-0.
Aubrey Zhou made it five straight singles' wins when she won 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (1) over Prachi Shah at five. Wang the won a tight 7-6 (1), 7-5 decision over Kim at one to close out the game.
Hopkins returns to action on Friday, March 27 versus Carnegie Mellon in Fredericksburg, VA. The match is scheduled for a 4:00 pm start.
