LANCASTER, PA – Following its 13
th consecutive Centennial Conference Championship, the Johns Hopkins men's indoor track & field team had several athletes earn All-Conference recognition.
Caleb Tenney and
Sebastian Tangelson captured two of the conference's top individual honors, being named Rookie of the Year and Field Athlete of the Year, respectively, while
Bobby Van Allen's staff earned Coaching Staff of the Year honors for the fourth straight season.
Tenney was named Rookie of the Year after setting the NCAA Division III freshman record in the 3,000 meters, running an 8:04.55 at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational earlier this season. His mark not only established a new national freshman record, but also ranks as the sixth-fastest time in Division III this season, the 10
th-fastest time in Division III history and the second-fastest time in program history.
Tangelson earned Field Athlete of the Year honors after successfully defending his conference title in the heptathlon at last week's Centennial Conference Championship, where he was also named the Field's Most Outstanding Performer. The junior scored 4,827 points — the fourth-highest total in program history — becoming the 12
th Hopkins athlete to capture the heptathlon title. Tangelson won five of the seven events, including three on the second day: the 60-meter hurdles (8.77), pole vault (3.70m) and 1,000-meter run (2:42.53), the latter marking a personal best.
After leading the Blue Jays to their 13
th consecutive indoor title,
Bobby Van Allen and his staff were named Coaching Staff of the Year.
In total, Johns Hopkins earned four First Team All-Conference selections:
Oluwademilade Adeniran (triple jump),
Tyler Caswell (60 hurdles),
Brady Ott (mile) and Tangelson (heptathlon).
Hopkins also added 15 Second Team All-Conference selections, including
Alex Colletti (60, 200),
Peter Murray (mile),
Olaf Dietz (3000),
Nash Minor (5000),
Jack Maier (60 hurdles),
Samson Dessalines,
Matteo O'Malley,
Connor Oiler and
Rowan Cassidy as members of the 4x800 relay team, Tenney,
Michael Long, O'Malley and
Emmanuel Leblond as members of the distance medley relay team and
Alexander Williams (heptathlon).
Rounding out the Blue Jays' All-Conference selections were
Fisayo Omonije (800) and
Nick Pham (5000), who each earned Honorable Mention recognition. O'Malley was also named Johns Hopkins' representative on the All-Sportsmanship Team.
