HAVERFORD, PA –
Jorge Gana led the Johns Hopkins men's fencing team at the 2026 NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional with an eighth-place finish on Saturday. In total, four Blue Jays finished in the top 15 at the championship.
Gana went 5-5 in pool play, with a first-round bye, to earn a spot in the top 12. He then went 5-5 and finished the day with a 10-11 record to take eighth place out of 46 fencers in the Epee. It was the highest finish by a Division III fencer and it was the third top-10 finish at the regional in his career.
Jamie Knox placed 13
th overall in the Epee and was the second highest finish by a DIII fencer. He finished the day with an 8-7 record and now has 72 wins on the season. That is the seventh most by a freshman Epeeist in JHU history.
Ethan Insler finished 32
nd with a 3-2 record while
Ayan Bhatnagar placed 40
th (1-4).
Josh Sima led the Blue Jay Foilists with a 13
th place finish out of 46 fencers. It was the second highest finish by a Division III fencer in the Sabre. In addition, it was the highest finish by a JHU freshman since
Jay Petrie placed 12
th in 2013. Sima went 9-8 on the day and now has 74 wins on the season, sixth most by a freshman in the Foil in program history.
Omar Reyes finished in 19
th place in the Foil as he went 6-5 in pool play.
Spencer Grossman Smisek took 39
th place with a 1-5 record.
Neil Pandey led the Sabre squad with a 12
th place finish out of 39 fencers. It was the highest finish by a Division III fencer in the Sabre. He went 8-8 in pool play to earn a spot in the final 12. Pandey then went 3-8 to finish with an 11-16 record on the day.
Noah Zeng finished in 21
st place with a 4-6 record, while
Alex Jeffords placed 22
nd (4-7) and
Alex Pan placed 24
th (6-4).
