DURHAM, NC – The Johns Hopkins men's and women's track and field teams opened competition at the Duke Invitational on Friday, recording two top-25 finishes across four events while also posting several marks that rank among the program's all-time best and within Division III this season.
The Blue Jays' throwing contingent highlighted the first day of competition, earning two top-15 finishes in the hammer throw.
Erika Ezumba led the group with a 10
th-place finish and a throw of 52.88 meters, while
Phoebe Williams placed 15
th with a mark of 49.58 meters. Ezumba also competed in the discus, finishing 31
st with a throw of 31.29 meters.
On the track,
Dominique Thomas and
Mirra Klimov competed in the 100-meter dash. Thomas clocked an 11.98, while Klimov followed closely with a time of 12.04. Thomas' performance ranks as the 12
th-fastest time in Division III this season and would have been the second-fastest in program history; however, a wind reading of 3.0 meters renders the mark ineligible for record-book consideration. Klimov's time currently stands as the 18
th-fastest in Division III this season.
On the men's side,
Tyler Caswell competed in the 110-meter hurdles, placing 40
th with a time of 15.53.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, April 11, as the Blue Jays split their squad between the Duke Invitational in Durham, NC, the Bison Outdoor Classic in Lewisburg, PA, hosted by Bucknell, and the Gallaudet Classic in Washington, DC.
