BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins men's track and field team opened competition Friday across four meets—the Virginia Challenge, Paul Donahue Invitational, Navy Spring Invitational and Morgan State Legacy Meet—recording 12 top-25 finishes while posting several marks that rank among the best in program history and across Division III this season.
Emmanuel Leblond delivered a highlight performance at the Virginia Challenge, rewriting the Hopkins record book in the 5,000 meters. He clocked a personal-best 14:01.28 to place 17
th, breaking his own school record. Leblond was also the top Division III finisher in the field, and his time ranks sixth nationally this season and second all-time in Centennial Conference history. In the same event,
Caleb Tenney placed 23
rd in 14:30.05, the second-fastest time by a freshman in the field. His mark ranks 35
th nationally and ninth in program history.
At the Paul Donahue Invitational, hosted by Widener,
Fisayo Omonije led the way for the Blue Jays. He placed 10
th in the 800 meters with a time of 1:51.79, which ranks 15
th nationally and third in school history.
Shrey Chettiar added a 24
th-place finish in 1:54.73.
In the 5,000 meters,
Vaughn Decker paced a group of four Blue Jays finishing in the top 25. Decker took 10
th in 14:50.79, followed by
Tyson Bhalla in 19
th (15:01.82),
Eli Merritt in 22
nd (15:06.82) and
Henry Zhe-Heimerman in 25
th (15:08.72).
Brady Ott rounded out the day for Hopkins at Widener with a 13
th-place finish in the mile, crossing in 4:11.44.
At the Morgan State Legacy Meet,
Luke DeBaugh highlighted Hopkins' efforts with a runner-up finish in the javelin. He recorded a personal-best throw of 50.35 meters, which ranks 10
th in program history.
Ryan Braga and
Alexander Yeon added top-15 finishes in the hammer throw. Braga placed seventh with a throw of 42.54 meters, while Yeon finished 11
th at 35.99 meters.
Sebastian Tangelson represented the Blue Jays at the Navy Spring Invitational in the decathlon and sits fifth overall with 3,470 points after day one. His performance was highlighted by a second-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 12.54 meters.
Hopkins returns to action Saturday, April 18, to conclude competition at the Navy Spring Invitational, Paul Donahue Invitational and Morgan State Legacy Meet.
