Record-Breaking Run by Oiler Headlines Hopkins at Penn Relays

Senior Breaks Program Record in Steeplechase

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Johns Hopkins men's track and field team opened competition Thursday at the prestigious Penn Relays, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania, highlighted by a record-setting performance from Connor Oiler.
 
Oiler led off for the Blue Jays in the steeplechase and delivered a stellar performance, placing 17th with a personal-best time of 8:53.87. His mark rewrites the Hopkins record book, setting a new program record while also ranking fifth in Division III this season, third in Centennial Conference history and 32nd in Division III history.
 
Cedar Nichols-Barnhart and Brady Ott rounded out Hopkins' day-one competitors in the 5,000-meter run. Nichols-Barnhart was the third Division III runner to cross the line, finishing in 14:46.51, while Ott placed fourth among Division III competitors with a time of 14:52.48.
 
Hopkins returns to action Friday, April 24, splitting squads between the Penn Relays and the Carpenter-Case Invite, hosted by McDaniel.
