GETTYSBURG, PA – The Johns Hopkins men's track and field team opened competition at the Centennial Conference Outdoor Championships, hosted by Gettysburg College, on Friday, highlighted by a standout performance from
Nash Minor, who earned a silver medal.
After three scored events, the Blue Jays lead the team standings with 29.5 points. Ursinus (22), Dickinson (20), Gettysburg (18) and Franklin & Marshall (11) round out the top five heading into day two.
Hopkins turned in a strong showing in the 10,000-meter run, placing five runners among the top eight scorers, led by Minor. He secured his second consecutive silver medal in the event, clocking a personal-best 31:21.13, which ranks 89
th nationally this season.
Dane Spahr followed in fourth place with a personal-best 31:24.32 (96
th nationally), while
Vaughn Decker placed fifth in a personal-best 31:32.32.
Matthew Kelly (31:39.63) and
Nick Pham (31:41.82 | PR) rounded out the scoring for the Blue Jays, as the group combined to add 12 points to the team total.
In the decathlon,
Alexander Williams and
Owen Takahashi have Hopkins in a strong position through five events. Williams leads the field with 3,204 points, while Takahashi sits in second with 2,589 points. Williams highlighted his day with a first-place finish in the high jump (1.77m), while Takahashi's top performance came in the 400-meter dash, where he placed first in 52.95.
Hopkins also picked up key points in the field events.
Ryan Braga scored four points with a fifth-place finish in the hammer throw (46.10m). In the pole vault,
Aidan Rothstein and
Sebastian Tangelson combined for 5.5 points, with Rothstein finishing fourth (3.95m) and Tangelson placing eighth (3.65m).
The Blue Jays return to action Saturday, May 2, for day two of the Centennial Conference Championships, looking to defend their team title and capture the program's second consecutive—and ninth overall—conference championship.
