Two Champions Propel Hopkins on Day Two of Centennial Championships

Williams Claims Decathlon Title; Zhe-Heimerman Takes Steeplechase

GETTYSBURG, PA – The Johns Hopkins men's track and field team turned in a strong showing on day two of the Centennial Conference Outdoor Championships, hosted by Gettysburg College on Saturday. The Blue Jays were highlighted by championship performances from Alexander Williams and Henry Zhe-Heimerman and enter the final day in first place in the team standings.
 
After nine scored events, Hopkins leads with 84 points, followed by Ursinus (67.5) and Dickinson (45). Gettysburg (40) sits fourth, while Franklin & Marshall and Muhlenberg are tied for fifth with 27 points.
 
The Champions
Alexander Williams | Decathlon
In his inaugural season, Williams became the 11th decathlon champion in program history, totaling 5,570 points. His victory marks the third consecutive year that Johns Hopkins has claimed the event title. On day two, Williams posted first-place finishes in the 110-meter hurdles (16.41) and discus throw (44.36m), with his discus mark ranking fourth all-time in program history.
 
Owen Takahashi secured his third consecutive silver medal in the decathlon with 5,218 points. His top performance of the day came in the 110-meter hurdles, where he placed second in 16.68.
 
Henry Zhe-Heimerman | Steeplechase
Zhe-Heimerman became the fourth steeplechase champion in program history, capturing the title with a personal-best time of 9:39.71. His win also extends Hopkins' streak to four straight steeplechase titles. Lance Nicholls added a bronze medal, finishing in 9:44.28 to become the sixth Blue Jay to earn bronze in the event.
 
The 4x800-meter relay team of Samson Dessalines, Rowan Cassidy, Connor Oiler and Peter Murray earned a silver medal with a time of 7:47.49, the fourth-fastest mark in program history.
 
Williams and Ryan Braga added eight points in the discus, finishing fourth (41.17m) and sixth (40.84m), respectively. In the high jump, Ted Richards (sixth | 1.78m) and Sebastian Tangelson (seventh | 1.73m) combined for 4.5 points.
 
Hopkins will have strong representation across multiple events on Sunday. Tyler Caswell, Tangelson and Jack Maier all advanced to the 110-meter hurdles final. Caswell posted the second-fastest preliminary time (15.35), followed by Tangelson with a personal-best 15.63 and Maier at 15.91. Caswell also qualified for the 400-meter hurdles final (57.55).
 
In the sprints, Alex Colletti (10.98) and Carter Chui (11.11 | PR) advanced to the 100-meter dash final, while Colletti also qualified for the 200-meter final (22.06).
 
Josh Lee (49.70) and Spencer Ye (49.98) will compete in the 400-meter final, and Fisayo Omonije secured a spot in the 800-meter final with a 1:53.35 performance.
 
Hopkins returns to action Sunday, May 3, for the final day of competition, aiming to defend its team title and capture the program's second consecutive—and ninth overall—Centennial Conference championship.
