CHATTANOOGA, TN –
Lia Melvin advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals in singles and
Ava Li and
Kamila Wong did the same in the doubles draw Friday at the NCAA Championships.
Melvin opened the day with a tight 6-4, 6-4 win over Eva Kovachev (Trinity) in the round of 32. She then won 7-5, 6-2 over Saina Deshpande (MIT), who had upset the number two seed in the opening round. This is the second straight year and third time in program history that a Blue Jays has advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Singles Championship.
Li and Wong, seeded fourth in the draw, grabbed a 6-1, 7-6 (7) win over Amelie Gonzalez and Ginevra Muratori (Skidmore) to advance to Saturday's quarterfinal. This is Wong's second trip to the NCAA Quarterfinals and the third by a Blue Jay doubles' team.
