Collegeville, PA - The Johns Hopkins men's tennis team improved to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the Centennial Conference after a decisive 7-0 victory over Ursinus College Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Justin Chan (Mountain Lakes, NJ/Mountain Lakes) and senior Ashish Lall (Buffalo, NY/Nichols) each dropped just one game in their singles matches to lead the Blue Jays. Chan, competing in the No. 3 singles, defeated Bob Gray 6-0, 6-1, while Lall dominated Chris Fox 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 4 singles.
Junior Kevin Alford (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon Township) and senior Sion Roy (Chandler, AZ/Brophy College Prep) each won their matches by identical 6-3, 6-0 scores in the No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Sophomore Grant Roch (Cedarburg, WI/Cedarburg) won 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 5 singles, while freshman Justin Belisario (Los Angeles, CA/Loyola) won 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 6 singles.
In the No. 1 doubles, Alford and Belisario needed a tiebreaker to defeat Steve Wilkes and Jeremy Landis, 9-8 (8-6). Roy and Chan won in the No. 2 doubles 8-3, while Lall and Erhan Bedestani (Hamilton, NJ/Lawrenceville Prep) won 8-4 in the No. 3 doubles.
The Blue Jays return to action Monday when they travel to Chestertown, MD, to face Washington College.
