Chestertown, MD - The Washington College men's tennis team, No. 2 in the latest South Atlantic rankings, shut out Johns Hopkins, 7-0, Monday afternoon at the Lifetime Fitness Center.
Junior Kevin Alford (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon Township) fell to Jose' Lejarraga at the No. 1 singles and senior Sion Roy (Chandler, AZ/Brophy College Prep) lost to Seth Morgan at the No. 2 singles by identical 6-2, 6-3 scores. Asfand Farouk defeated sophomore Justin Chan (Mountain Lakes, NJ/Mountain Lakes) 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 3 singles, and Peter Taylor topped senior Ashish Lall (Buffalo, NY/Nichols) 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 4 singles. The Shoremen also took the No. 5 and No. 6 singles, as Rafael Martins defeated sophomore Grant Roch (Cedarburg, WI/Cedarburg) 6-3, 6-0 and Louis Blanchette beat freshman Justin Belisario (Los Angeles, CA/Loyola) 6-2, 6-0.
The Shoremen, who improved to 66-0 all-time in Centennial Conference play, also took all three doubles matches. Lejarraga and Morgan defeated Alford and Belisario 8-3 at No. 1, Taylor and Martins defeated Roy and Chan 8-1 at No. 2, and Farouk and Blanchette topped senior Erhan Bedestani (Hamilton, NJ/Lawrenceville Prep) and Lall 8-1 at No. 3.
The Blue Jays will take to the courts again Saturday when they travel to Dickinson for a 1 p.m. match.
