Haverford, PA - The Johns Hopkins men's tennis team took three of six singles matches and won the doubles point to post a 4-3 victory over Haverford Saturday afternoon.
The Blue Jays improved to 5-4 overall and 4-2 in the Centennial Conference with the win, while the Fords dropped to 7-8 overall and 3-2 in the league.
Senior Kevin Alford (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon Township) defeated Carl Lederman 7-6 (7), 7-6 (1) at No. 1 singles for Hopkins, while Krisna Potarazu topped Matt Stein 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4. Freshman Michael Kelly-Sell (Ann Arbor, MI/Ann Arbor Pioneer) was the other singles winner for the Blue Jays, as he shut out Ben Greenfield 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
Aaron Scherb defeated junior Justin Chan (Mountain Lakes, NJ/Mountain Lakes) 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2, Harrison Lee topped sophomore Justin Belisario (Los Angeles, CA/Loyola) 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3, and Randolph Moon bested junior Grant Roch (Cedarburg, WI/Cedarburg) 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (3) at No. 5 for Haverford.
The Blue Jays earned the doubles point, as Alford and Belisario edged Lederman and Stein 8-6 at No. 1 while Roch and Kelly-Sell defeated Moon and Constantinos Vassiliou 8-2 at No. 3. Lee and Scherb topped Chan and Potarazu 8-3 at No. 2 for the Fords.
Hopkins returns to action Tuesday when the Blue Jays host McDaniel at 3:30 p.m.
