Salisbury, MD - The Salisbury University men's tennis team won three of six singles matches and two of three doubles matches to defeat Johns Hopkins, 4-3, Thursday afternoon. The Blue Jays fell to 6-5 on the season, while the Sea Gulls improved to 6-10.
Senior Kevin Alford (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon Township) continued his impressive season, as he defeated 25th-ranked Nick Peel 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles to improve to 9-2 this season. The other singles winners for Hopkins were sophomore Justin Belisario (Los Angeles, CA/Loyola), who posted a 6-4, 3-6, 10-4 win over Tyler Robinson at No. 3, and junior Grant Roch (Cedarburg, WI/Cedarburg), who topped Jamie Engles 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5.
Scott Mayberry defeated junior Justin Chan (Mountain Lakes, NJ/Mountain Lakes) 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, while Jacob Cook edged Krisna Potarazu 2-6, 6-3, 10-4 at No. 4. Salisbury also took the No. 6 singles point, as Tim Mayberry came back to defeat freshman Michael Kelly-Sell (Ann Arbor, MI/Ann Arbor Pioneer) 2-6, 6-3, 10-8.
Scott Mayberry and Peel defeated Alford and Belisario 8-6 at No. 1 doubles, while Cook and Engles edged Chan and Potarazu 8-6 at No. 2 as the Sea Gulls captured the doubles point. Roch and Kelly-Sell defeated Tim Mayberry and Robinson 9-7 at No. 3.
The Blue Jays conclude their regular season Tuesday when they host Franklin & Marshall at 3:30 p.m.
