Collegeville, PA - The Johns Hopkins men's tennis team won its second straight match by posting a 7-0 shutout of Ursinus Monday afternoon.
The Blue Jays improved to 2-5 overall and 2-3 in the Centennial Conference with the win, while the Bears fell to 3-7 overall and 1-5 in league play.
Senior Justin Chan (Mountain Lakes, NJ/Mountain Lakes) and junior Justin Belisario (Los Angeles, CA/Loyola) defeated Samit Patel and Tim Seibert 8-2 at No. 1 doubles while sophomore Michael Kelly-Sell (Ann Arbor, MI/Pioneer) and senior Grant Roch (Cedarburg, WI/Cedarburg) topped Jason Brown and Ben Isser 8-4 at No. 2 as Hopkins earned the doubles point. Chris Fox and Marcus Ressler picked up the only win for Ursinus on the day as they defeated freshman Andrew Chang (Norato, CA/San Francisco University) and senior Aaron Ong (Florence, KY/Boone County) 8-5 at No. 3 doubles.
Chan posted a 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles for the Blue Jays, while Belisario topped Isser 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2. Kelly-Sell knocked off Brown 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3, while Roch shut out Fox 8-0 in a pro set at No. 4. Freshman Nick Kennedy (Tucson, AZ/Deerfield Academy) defeated Ressler 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5, while Change posted an 8-1 pro set victory over Seibert at No. 6.
The Blue Jays travel to McDaniel Friday for a 3:30 p.m. match with the Green Terror.
