HAVERFORD, PA - Sophomores Lucy Webster and Kristin Strief each scored once as the Johns Hopkins field hockey team defeated Haverford 2-0 in Centennial Conference action on Saturday. The Blue Jays have now won five straight conference games, improving to 8-5 overall and 5-1 in the CC, while the Fords fell to 4-9 and 1-5 Centennial.
Webster made her second career goal the game-winner today when she scored off an assist from junior Amy Soergel with 12:39 remaining in the first half. The Blue Jays led 1-0 at the break after out-shooting the Fords 10-2 and holding an 11-2 advantage on penalty corners.
In the second half, Strief's first career goal - including college and high school - secured the win for Hopkins. Junior Leah Dudley tallied her second assist of the week on Strief's goal with 6:08 left in the game. The Blue Jays finished with a 16-4 lead on shots and 14-4 lead on corners. Junior Dayna Eng won her eighth game of the year with three saves in goal, while Haverford's Amie Roe recorded 12 saves.
Hopkins has now won seven straight against Haverford and leads the all-time series 22-3-1. The Blue Jays host Washington College this Wednesday, Oct. 19, at 7 pm.
