CHANDLER, AZ - The Johns Hopkins baseball team wrapped up its spring trip to Arizona with a 12-2 victory over Keene State on Saturday morning in Chandler, Arizona. The Blue Jays won their fourth straight game and improve to 8-2 on the year with the victory.
Hopkins led 2-1 after three innings of play in this one, behind RBIs from Ian Christie and Jonas Fester. Fester continued to hit the ball well in the fourth as he tripled to left field scoring Tony Margve and Lee Bolyard.
Leading 5-1 heading into the top of the sixth, the Hopkins offense broke this game open. The Blue Jays scored five runs on five hits in that inning as Rob Sanzillo and Margve both had RBI singles that scored two runs each.
Hopkins added two more runs in the top of the seventh to make it 12-1 before Keene State tallied a run against Jon Anderson in the bottom of the ninth.
Sophomore Henry Striegl got the victory in this one as he pitched two and a third innings of scoreless relief. Rick Stromgren took the loss as he surrendered five runs in four and a third innings of work.
Sanzillo was 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBIs while Fester was 3-for-4 with a run scored and four RBIs.
The Blue Jays return home and are scheduled to make their 2007 home debut on Tuesday, March 20th vs. Shenandoah at 3 p.m.
