#14 Carnegie Mellon Tops #21 Hopkins 6-3

CHESTERTOWN, MD - Carnegie Mellon, ranked #14 nationally, beat #21 Johns Hopkins 6-3 in men's tennis Saturday in Chestertown, MD. The Blue Jays fall to 4-2 on the season while the Tartans improve to 12-3.

Carnegie Mellon won two of the three doubles matches to take an early 2-1 lead. The lone win for Hopkins in doubles play came at first doubles. Junior Joe Vasoontara (Bangkok, Thailand/Loomis Chaffee) and senior Hillen Smith, Jr. (Baltimore, MD/Boys Latin), ranked #4 in the region, defeated Jon Spero and James Muliawan 8-4.

In singles play, #4 David Maldow (Jericho, NY/Jericho Senior) defeated #6 Muliwan in straight sets at first singles. The Tartans then won at second through fifth singles to claim the match. Hopkins picked up its third point of the match with a win at sixth singles. Freshman Peter Vale (Haverford, PA/Episcopal Academy) defeated Jordan Koslosky in three sets.

Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, March 28 versus McDaniel. The Centennial Conference match is set to begin at 4:00 pm in Baltimore.
