Box Score

BALTIMORE, MD - Brian Bednarczyk scored to break a 2-2 tie in the top of the seventh and lift York College of Pennsylvania to a 3-2 victory over the Johns Hopkins baseball team on Monday afternoon. The loss snaps a six-game win streak for the Blue Jays (10-3) while the Spartans (11-4) win their fourth straight.

The Blue Jays got on the board first in this one as junior Jonas Fester crushed the third pitch he saw, in the bottom of the first, over the left field fence for his first home run of the year. Hopkins would hold the 1-0 lead until the top of the fourth inning. Jeff Young singled to lead off the Spartans half of the fourth and moved to third on a double from Mike Connolly. Young came around to score on a Dennis Maxim groundout and Connolly scored on Bednarczyk's groundout.

Hopkins fought back to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth. Lee Bolyard singled up the middle to lead off the inning and advanced to third on a Tony Margve double to center field. Bolyard came around to score and tie the game on a Nick Venezia RBI groundout.

In the top of the seventh Bednarczyk reached for the Spartans on an error with one out. He then stole second and advanced to third on a ground out. Bednarczyk then scored what would be the game-winning run on a single by Ryan Craig.

Jason Christenberry threw seven and two thirds of an inning to secure the win for the Spartans. Chez Angeloni (0-2) took the loss for the Blue Jays despite throwing a complete game and striking out four.

Young and Connolly both finished the game 1-for-4 for the Spartans with a run scored. Fester was 1-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Margve and Bolyard also went 1-for-4 while Bolyard had a run scored.

The Blue Jays are back in action tomorrow, March 27th when they open Centennial Conference play at McDaniel College. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
