ELIZABETHTOWN, PA - Host Elizabethtown won nine of 10 matches, including four by four points or less, as the Blue Jays cruised past Johns Hopkins, 35-3, in non-conference wrestling action Wednesday night. Johns Hopkins, which opened the season with a sixth-place finish in last week's Messiah Invitational, got a victory in the 184-pound weight class to account for its only points of the match.
Hopkins lost two matches by a point as Elizabethtown's Ronnie Cuff picked up a 9-8 win over Robbie Nedbor-Gross at 149 and Paul Connor slipped past Andrew Brochu, 6-5, at 174. In all, seven of the 10 weight classes were decided by decision. The only three matches not decided by decision were at 125, 197 and 285. Etown's Tyler Erdman opened the match with a 15-0 technical fall victory over JHU's Adam Stevens, while Bill Meaney pinned Alex Villa at 197. Tim Katzman won by forfeit at 285 to close out the match.
Johns Hopkins freshman Hector Cintron continued his impressive early-season performance as he picked up the lone victory for Johns Hopkins with a 7-5 victory over Josh Cook at 184. Cintron, who placed fourth at the Messiah Invitational, improved to 3-2 on the year with his victory.
