PHOENIX, AZ - The first to dent the scoreboard, the Johns Hopkins baseball team scored three runs in the second inning after Lee Bolyard hit a three-run homer, scoring Dave Garber and Jesse Sikorski, paving the way for JHU's (3-2) third victory of the season, 18-3.
Macalester responded in the top of the third with its only three runs of the game.
The Blue Jays did not let up in the bottom of the third, scoring nine runs on eight hits to put Macalester away. Brian Youchak was the first to reach, with a single to right field. Ryan Biner followed with a home run to left.
A single by Sikorski would send Todd Emr home after he reached on a single.
Bolyard later tripled in the inning with bases loaded to collect three RBI. Bolyard scored after a sacrifice fly by Dan Merzel.
Zach Small and Youchak were the last to cross the plate in the third after successfully batting through the order.
Garber knocked a three-run shot of his own in the fifth to fuel a six-run inning. Emr and Youchak both scored as a result of Garber's ome run, accounting for three of the six runs scored in the inning.
Dan Schiffner was the winning pitcher, improving to 1-0 after throwing five innings.
The Blue Jays will be at it again on Monday, taking on Brockport as the continue in the RussMatt Invitational.
