Phoenix, AZ - The Johns Hopkins baseball team earned a pair of victories on Tuesday, defeating Brockport and Springfield by 10 runs or more to move to 5-4 on the season. The Blue Jays handily defeated Brockport, 24-9 and had a strong showing against Springfield, 13-2.
Leading 3-1 against Brockport, the Blue Jays scored 12 runs in the third inning on seven hits. Todd Emr reached after being hit by a pitch. Lee Bolyard singled to move Emr to second and Brendan Walsh singled to left. Zach Small then reached on a walk, scoring Emr with the bases still loaded. Matt Bernardi followed with a two-RBI-single to center. Brian Youchak then doubled to score a pair of runs. Ryan Biner was up next, hitting a single to the shortstop and completing the cycle. Bolyard would earn his second base-hit of the inning before Chris Huisman walked to load the bases. Walsh knocked a grand slam to end the inning. Each of JHU's 12 runs in the third came with two outs already secured.
The Blue Jays had another big inning in the fourth, plating six runs and earning a 21-1 lead. Hopkins would go on to beat Brockport, 24-5.
In the second game of the day, Hopkins was tied at two with Springfield heading into the seventh inning. The Blue Jays exploded in the seventh, notching seven runs. JHU would score another four runs in the eighth inning to secure the victory after holding Springfield scoreless after the sixth inning. The Blue Jays defeated Springfield 13-2.
Junior Lee Bolyard was 7-for-7 on the day with two doubles.
Hopkins will face Western New England Wednesday in the RussMatt Invitational.
