CARLISLE, PA - Thirteenth-ranked Johns Hopkins picked up a 9-0 win at Dickinson on Wednesday afternoon to extend the Blue Jays win streak to three. Hopkins improves to 4-3 on the season with a 2-0 record in the Centennial Conference, while Dickinson slips to 8-4 overall and 1-1 in the conference. In the win, junior David Maldow (Jericho, NY/Jericho) picked up his 50th career singles win to become just the second player in program history to reach the milestone.
Hopkins took an early 3-0 lead in the match after sweeping all three doubles matches. At first doubles, Maldow and sophomore Andrew Wang (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) got a battle from Ross Anstaett and Pavel Hejsek before prevailing 9-7. At second, sophomore Casey Blythe (Louisville, KY/St. Xavier) and freshman Jacob Barnaby (Phoenix, AZ/Desert Vista) won 8-1 over Andrew Kastner and Matt Wood. And at third, it was freshman Warren Elgort (New York, NY/Trinity School) and junior Peter Vale (Haverford, PA/Episcopal Academy) winning 8-3 over Patrick Reiher and Harrison Waterstreet.
In singles action, the Blue Jays swept all six matches to complete the shutout of the Red Devils. Vale picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win at sixth over David London. Blythe dropped just two games in beating Kurt Mendelson at fifth, 6-1, 6-1. At fourth, Barnaby won his third straight with an 8-3 win over Wood. Elgort won his team-best 11th match of the season, beating Bo Marshall, 6-3, 6-4 at third. Wang, also winning his 11th match of the season, beat Hejsek at second 8-1. The longest match came at first where Maldow and Anstaett battled to three sets. Maldow won the first set 6-1, but Anstaett came back to win the second in a tie-break, 7-6 (7-3). Maldow then claimed the milestone win with a 10-2 win in a super tiebreaker in the third set.
Hopkins, which has now won 22 straight Centennial Conference matches, returns to action on Saturday, April 4 when Ursinus visits Baltimore. The match is slated to start at 11:00 am.
