BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's tennis team won its seventh straight match on Friday, shutting out visiting McDaniel 9-0 in Centennial Conference action. The Blue Jays are now 8-3 on the season, including a 5-0 mark in the conference. The Green Terror fall to 3-6 overall and 0-4 in the Centennial Conference.
In doubles action, junior Peter Vale (Haverford, PA/Episcopal Academy) and sophomore Andrew Wang (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) did not drop a game in beating Justin Ward and Dan Green at second. While at first, freshman Warren Elgort (New York, NY/Trinity School) and sophomore Ryan Rauck (Columbus, OH/Bexley) won 8-1 over Dan Hovorka and Adrian Pettaway. The Green Terror defaulted at third doubles and the Blue Jays took a 3-0 lead into singles.
In single action, the Blue Jays dropped just one game in four matches, as the Green Terror defaulted at fifth and sixth. Freshman Orlando Ferrer (Naples, FL/Bradenton Prepartory Academy) won his eighth straight match, beating Ward at second singles. Senior David Maldow (Jericho, NY/Jericho) then won at first, beating Hovorka 6-1, 6-0, to clinch the match. Sophomore Jake Schneiders (Englewood, CO/Cherry Creek) won at third over Pettaway. And Weber wrapped up the match with a straight sets win over Green at fourth, for his 20th career win.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, April 11 as it travels to Lancaster, PA to take on Franklin & Marshall. The Centennial Conference match is slated to begin at 11:00 am.
