Box Score

BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins baseball team used four long balls to defeat Gettysburg, who hit three home runs themselves, by a score of 9-5. Mike Backus had two home runs for the Bullets while four different Blue Jays each had one. With the win, Hopkins improves to 25-3 overall and 11-0 in the Centennial while extending their winning streak to 18 games. Gettysburg falls to 11-15 and 3-9 in the conference.

Matthew Bernardi (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) led of the game with a solo home run and Dave Kahn (New Hyde Park/Herricks) hit a sacrifice to score Chris Huisman (Davidsonville, MD/Archbishop Spalding) to give the Blue Jays a 2-0 lead after one inning.

Gettysburg took a 4-2 lead in the top of the third inning on two two-run home runs to right field. Kevin Langhauser hit the first one and two batters later Mike Backus hit one. The lead did not last long, however, as Huisman hit a bomb to right lead-off the bottom of the inning and Kahn scored on a pass ball to make the game 4-4 after three complete.

The Blue Jays took the lead in the fifth by pushing three runs across the plate. John Swarr (Radnor, PA/Conestoga) had a two-RBI single in the inning.

The Bullets scored one run in the sixth on Backus' second home run of the day. Stephen Bejsiuk (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) answered with his own home run in the bottom of the inning. Hopkins lead, 8-5 with three innings to play.

Jesse Sikorski (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) launched an opposite-field home run in the seventh for the Blue Jays which closed out the scoring of the game.

Marco Simmons (Baltimore, MD/Gilman) earned the win for the Blue Jays to improve to 4-1 on the season. Simmons allowed four runs on seven hits in five innings pitched. Andrew Pevsner (Calabasas, CA/Agoura) pitched three innings in relief allowing one run on one hit and striking out two Bullets. Ryan Scherich (Torrance, CA/Canyon) pitched a perfect ninth inning with two strikeouts.

Matt Karis took the loss for the Bullets allowing nine runs, six earned, on eleven hits in 6.1 innings pitched. Karis had seven strikeouts in the game.

Huisman went 3-for-5 witih a home run, a double and three runs scored. Bejsiuk had two hits with a home run while Kahn had two hits with two runs scored. Langhauser had two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs. Pat Cody and Drew Roy each had two hits in the game.

Backus had two home runs to total three RBIs and two runs scored for the Bullets. Langhauser had two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs. Pat Cody and Drew Roy each had two hits in the game.

The Blue Jays return to action on April 13 to take on Washington on the road. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
