CHESTERTOWN, MD - Sophomore Alex Eliopoulos (Arlington, VA/The Heights School) of the Johns Hopkins baseball team had a no-hitter going into the eighth inning against Washington before a flare hit fell in shallow centerfield. The Blue Jays held on to win, 4-2, to extend their winning streak to 19 games, the second longest winning streak in Hopkins history. Hopkins is now 26-3 overall and 13-0 in the Centennial. Washington falls to 12-11 overall and 7-6 in the conference.
Eliopoulos improved to 5-0 on the season in his first-career complete game. Eliopoulos allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits. He had eight strikeouts and only one walk.
Chris Keiper took the loss for Washington, allowing three runs, one earned, on five hits in six innings pitched. He had six strikeouts in the game. Chris Smith had two strikeouts in two innings of relief and allowing one hit. Shane Mattingly pitched one inning of perfect ball in relief.
The Blue Jays took a 1-0 lead in the fourth after Dave Kahn (New Hyde Park/Herricks) doubled and scored on an RBI single by Jesse Sikorski (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers Academy).
The Shoremen tied the game in the fifth after Ryan Normoyle was hit by pitch, stole second, and advanced to third and home on two ground outs.
Hopkins took the lead again in the sixth when John Swarr (Radnor, PA/Conestoga) hit a two-out, two-strike curveball though the left side with the bases loaded to plate two runs. Brian Youchak (Pittsburgh, PA/Vincentian Academy) launched a home run to right in the seventh to make the score 4-1.
Washington's Tyler Cotterell hit a flare up the middle to end Eliopoulos' bid for a no-hitter.
The Shoremen had two more hits in the bottom of the ninth and scored one unearned run but could not rally enough to tie to score.

The Blue Jays had six hits in the game while Washington had three. Both teams made two errors.
