Hopkins Reaches 30-Win Mark

ALLENTOWN, PA - The Johns Hopkins baseball team won its 23rd consecutive game and reached the 30-win mark with a doubleheader sweep at Muhlenberg. The Blue Jays cruised to 9-1 and 13-6 victories and clinched the #1 seed and the right to host the Centennial Conference Tournament. Hopkins is now 30-3 overall and 16-0 in the Centennial while Muhlenberg falls to 14-16 overall and 8-8 in the conference.

Brian Youchak (Pittsburgh, PA/Vincentian Academy) led the Blue Jay offense by going 6-for-8 on the day with two home runs, two doubles, nine RBIs and six runs scored. Dave Kahn (New Hyde Park/Herricks) had four hits on the day and was a home run shy of the cycle of the second game. Jesse Sikorski (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) had six RBIs on a home run and two doubles. Sam Wernick (Dallas, TX/Dallas Jesuit College Prep) scored four runs on three hits.

Sam Eagleson (Reading, PA/Governor Mifflin) pitched a complete seven innings in game one allowing just one run on five hits. Eagleson had four strikeouts. Greg Harbeck (Glen Ridge, NJ/Montclair Kimberley Academy) earned the win in game two, allowing two runs on seven hits in seven innings pitched. Harbeck had six strikeouts.

Joseph DiCecilia went 5-for-6 for the Mules while Dan Fisher and Joseph Vila had three hits apiece.

The Blue Jays jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning of game one on a three-run home run by Sikorski. Both Hopkins and Muhlenberg added solo runs in the second.

Hopkins added three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to put the Mules away. Sikorski had a two-RBI double in the fifth inning while Youchak had an RBI single in the fifth and an RBI double in the sixth.

Chris Harper took the loss by allowing nine runs on eight hits in seven innings pitched.

Neither team made any errors in the game while Hopkins had eight hits and Muhlenberg had five hits.

In game two, the Blue Jays got on the board in the third inning on a grand slam that Youchak launched to right field.

Hopkins built a 13-0 lead after six and a half innings. Youchak hit his second home run of the game in the sixth inning and Kahn hit a two-RBI triple in the seventh.

Muhlenberg scored two runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings. Bobby Spindler hit a two-RBI triple in the seventh inning.

Hopkins pounded out 19 hits in the second game while Muhlenberg had 11 hits. Both teams committed two errors.

The Blue Jays return to action on April 20 when they travel to Montclair State. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
