WESTMINSTER, MD - Grad Student Brian Youchak (Pittsburgh, PA/Vincentian Academy) hit two of the Blue Jays five home runs to lead the Johns Hopkins baseball team to a 16-6 win over McDaniel. The Blue Jays improve to 16-3 overall and 5-0 in the Centennial Conference while the Green Terror fall to 5-9 overall and 1-5 in the conference.
All nine starters for the Blue Jays reached base safely in the contest.
Youchak led the Blue Jays with two singles on top of his two homeruns. He collected three RBIs and scored three runs. Senior Dave Kahn (New Hyde Park/Herricks) hit a home run, a triple, and a single, to fall just a double short of the cycle. Kahn also had three RBIs and three runs scored.
Junior Jesse Sikorski (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) started the home run party in the first inning with a two-RBI home run to left. This capped a three run first inning for Hopkins. Sikorski finished the day with two hits and three RBIs.
Senior John Swarr (Radnor, PA/Conestoga) highlighted a four-run third inning for the Blue Jays with a two-RBI double. Swarr had two hits and two RBIs for the day.
McDaniel scored three runs in their half of the third to make the score 7-3 after three innings. Freshman Patrick Christopher hit a two-RBI triple in the inning.
Hopkins added one run in the fourth before the Green Terror put a scare into Hopkins with a three-run fifth to make the score 8-6. Senior Russell Coover laced a two-RBI single in the inning.
The Blue Jays answered right back in the top of the sixth, scoring four runs on three home runs. Sophomore Sam Wernick (Dallas, TX/Dallas Jesuit College Prep) launched his first-career home run to lead off the inning. After a Huisman single, Youchak homered to dead centerfield. Kahn then hit a home run to left for the Blue Jays to go back-to-back. Kahn has now homered in three straight games.
The Blue Jays would add three runs in the eighth and one in the ninth to close the book on the Green Terror.
Sophomore Alex Eliopoulos (Arlington, VA/The Heights School) earned the win for Hopkins allowing three earned runs on eight hits in five innings pitched. Andrew Pevsner (Calabasas, CA/Agoura), Blake Platt (Munster, IN/Munster), and Garrett Gomez (Carlsbad, CA/Santa Fe Christian) all pitched one inning of shut ball in relief.
Sophomore Danny Snight took the loss allowing 10 runs, seven earned, on 11 hits in five innings pitched.
The Blue Jays return to action on Saturday, April 3 for a home conference doubleheader against Swarthmore. First pitch is scheduled to take place at 12:30 pm.
