Hopkins Gives Dickinson a Devil of a Time

BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins Baseball team defeated Dickinson, 16-4, at the Blue Jay Baseball Diamond. The Blue Jays used 15 hits and took advantage of seven Red Devil errors to score their 16 runs in the game. With the win, Hopkins improves to 20-3 overall and 8-0 in the Centennial Conference. Dickinson falls to 6-15 overall and 3-6 in the conference.

Dickinson had 10 hits in the game and Hopkins made one error.

Matthew Bernardi (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) had three hits and three RBIs in the game while Jesse Sikorski (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) also had three hits. Joe Borrelli (Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) and Dave Kahn (New Hyde Park/Herricks) each tallied two hits and three runs scored.

Mike Schuster, Tyler Rosa, and Matt Tuneski all had multi-hit games for the Red Devils.

Dickinson scored two runs in the top of the first inning. Schuster led off the inning with single up the middle. Sciambi then hit a two-run home run over the right field fence.

Hopkins did not trail for long as they took advantage of three Red Devil errors in the bottom of the first to push six runs across the plate. Borrelli and Bernardi each had RBI singles in the inning.

The Red Devils answered with one run in the second. Schuster singled in Matt Tuneski, who reached on a double over the centerfielder's head.

The Blue Jays added one in their half of the second. Kahn tripled to right and scored on a single by Sikorski.

Tuneski had an RBI single in the third for Dickinson while Hopkins scored two in their half on a wild pitch and an RBI ground out by Bernardi. Hopkins led, 9-4, after three innings.

The Blue Jays scored three runs in the fourth on three hits and one Red Devil error to make the score 12-4.

Hopkins added three more in the sixth with back-to-back RBI singles from Chris Huisman (Davidsonville, MD/Archbishop Spalding) and Brian Youchak (Pittsburgh, PA/Vincentian Academy).

Marco Simmons (Baltimore, MD/Gilman) earned the win for Hopkins, allowing four runs on nine hits and eight strikeouts. Simmons improves to 3-1 on the season.

Evan Fitzpatrick took the loss for Dickinson, allowing 12 runs, four earned, on 12 hits in five innings pitched.

The Blue Jays return to action tomorrow when they travel to Lebanon Valley for a non-conference game. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
