Box Score

BALTIMORE, MD - The 10th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team shut out visiting Washington College, 5-0, on Saturday afternoon in the Centennial Conference Semifinals. The Blue Jays win their school-record-tying 19th match and improve to 19-5 on the season. The Shoremen's season comes to a close at 12-6. Hopkins will play Swarthmore in the Centennial Conference title match on Sunday in Baltimore.

Hopkins opened up a 3-0 lead in the match by sweeping all three doubles. Sophomore Jacob Barnaby (Phoenix, AZ/Desert Vista) and junior Casey Blythe (Louisville, KY/St. Xavier) took the first point with an 8-3 win at second over Timothy Parks and Josh Hedrick. The win for Barnaby was the 50th of his career, making him the fastest player in school history to win 50 doubles matches. Sophomore Warren Elgort (New York, NY/Trinity School) and junior Ryan Rauck (Columbus, OH/Bexley) did not drop a game in beating Aaron Ellison and John Menzione at third. Senior David Maldow (Jericho, NY/Jericho) and junior Andrew Wang (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) closed out doubles with an 8-5 win at first over Adam Cranford and Kevin Papen.

Freshman Andy Hersh (Valrico, FL/Newsome) quickly gave the Blue Jays a 4-0 lead in the match with a 6-1, 6-0 win at fourth over Hedrick. The win is his 19th of the season and is tied with Maldow for most on the team. Wang then clinched the match at second with a 6-0, 6-3 win, his ninth straight, over Papen. With the match already decided, the remaining matches were halted.

Hopkins advances to the Centennial Conference title match for the fifth straight year as the Blue Jays are the only team in the conference to make all five championship matches. Hopkins will face Swarthmore in Sunday's championship match for the second straight year. The match is slated to begin at 3:00 pm.
