BALTIMORE, MD - Fifth-seeded Haverford continued its improbable late season run on Friday night as the Fords upset top-seeded Johns Hopkins, 2-1, in the Centennial Conference semifinals at Homewood Field. The Blue Jays wrap up the season with a 10-5-3 record. The Fords, winners of eight straight, improve to 11-6-1 and advance to the Centennial Conference title game for the first time in program history.

Senior Sean Duggan nearly put the Blue Jays on the board with time winding down in the first half when he blasted a shot from 20 yards out that snuck through traffic. But Haverford goalie Nick Kahn was able to hold on to the ball to send the teams into the locker room level. The Fords nearly got on the board in the 48th minute on a header shot by Jamie Reingruber that eluded freshman goalie Nick Cerrone but sophomore Sam Glassman was glued to the right post and cleared it out. The ball ricocheted around the box and ended up on the foot of Alejandro Rettig y Martinez, who corralled the ball and then slipped a shot under Cerrone just seven seconds later.

Hopkins answered quickly, pulling even just over two minutes later. Glassman made a great run down the right touchline, eluding several defenders before sliding a pass between two Fords to a streaking Matt Carey. Carey ran onto the pass near the end line and crossed the ball into the box where classmate Kotaro Mitsuhashi buried it over an outstretched Kahn for the equalizer in the 50th minute. But the Fords, who have rattled off seven straight wins to keep its season alive after starting out 3-6-1, weren't going away. A loose ball caromed to the David Robinson, who one-timed a shot from 30 yards out that eluded a diving Cerrone and found the upper left corner to put the Fords on top in the 67th minute. Hopkins had some chances in the final 20 minutes, but the best came in the waning seconds as senior Corey Adams controlled the ball and then ripped a shot from 50 yards out that just went wide.

Cerrone finished with five saves in the loss, while Kahn made three saves for the Fords. Hopkins outshot Haverford, 14-9, and had more corners (5-3). The win is the first for the Fords over Hopkins since October 7, 1995 - a 3-2 win at Homewood Field. Haverford is the first number five seed to advance to the finals since Gettysburg in 2005. It is Hopkins first loss as the number one seed since a 2-1 loss to Gettysburg in the 2001 semifinal.

Haverford will face the winner of the Dickinson-Muhlenberg game on Sunday, November 6 at Noon in the Centennial Conference title game.
