BALTIMORE, MD - The 13th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis beat visiting Swarthmore, 8-1, on Saturday afternoon to win its 40th straight Centennial Conference match. Hopkins improves to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference, while the Garnet fall to 4-6 and 1-1 in the conference.
Hopkins swept all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead in the match. Junior Jacob Barnaby and senior Casey Blythe won at first, beating Zak Kelm and Stephen Youngblood, 8-5. Junior Warren Elgort and senior Andrew Wang took an 8-2 decision at second over Maxwell Bressman and Max Kaye. And at third, sophomore Jeff Kamei and senior Ryan Rauck won 8-6 over Anthony Collard and Seth Udelson.
In singles play, Hopkins took five of six matches as all six matches were decided in straight sets. Freshman Jeremy Schwartz and sophomore Morgan Dauer each won by a 6-2, 6-0 score at fifth and six, respectively. At fourth, Swarthmore earned its lone point of the match as Bressman beat Blythe, 6-3, 7-5. Sophomore Andy Hersh won at third, beating Kelm, 6-4, 6-1. Elgort beat Kaye, 6-1, 6-4 at second. And Wang won at first, beating Youngblood, 6-4, 6-3.
Hopkins returns to action on Tuesday, March 29 as Gettysburg visits Baltimore. The Centennial Conference tilt is slated to begin at 4:00 pm.
