BALTIMORE, MD - The 13th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team won its third straight match on Tuesday, blanking Gettysburg, 9-0, in a Centennial Conference match. The Blue Jays improves to 7-3 on the season and 3-0 in the conference, while the Bullets drop just their second match of the season to fall to 5-2 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
Hopkins swept all three doubles matches to take an early 3-0 lead in the match before taking all six singles matches in straight sets. Junior Jacob Barnaby and freshman Jeremy Schwartz paired to beat Mike McLaughlin and Johnny Nelson, 8-2, at third doubles. Freshman German Gonzalez and sophomore Andy Hersh picked up an 8-5 win at second, beating Will Brinks and Tom Gosnell. And at first, sophomore Jeff Kamei and senior Ryan Rauck earned an 8-6 win over Chris Curran and Sebastian Rodriguez at first.
In singles, Barnaby lost just two games en route to a 6-0, 6-2 win over Gosnell at third. The win gave Barnaby his 98th career win, leaving him just two shy of reaching the 100-win milestone. Kamei then clinched the match for the Blue Jays with an identical score at sixth. Hersh also put up a 6-0, 6-2 score, beating Curran at first to push Hopkins lead to 6-0. Schwartz followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win at second over McLaughlin. At fifth, Gonzalez won 6-3, 6-1 over Brinks. Rauck wrapped up the match with a 7-6 (2), 6-2 win at fourth over Rodriguez.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, April 2 at Ursinus. The Centennial Conference match is slated to begin at 1:00 pm.
