COLLEGEVILLE, PA - The 12th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis blanked host Ursinus, 9-0, Saturday afternoon to remain unbeaten in Centennial Conference play. The Blue Jays improve to 8-3 overall and 4-0 in the conference, while the Bears fall to 8-5 overall and 0-4 in the conference.
Hopkins led 3-0 after doubles before sweeping all six singles matches to complete the shut out. Sophomores Andy Hersh and Morgan Dauer lost just two games in an 8-2 win at first doubles over Evan Stutchin and Evan Lord. Junior Ron Friedman and freshman Joonas Karjalainen did one better, winning 8-1 over Kevin Dean and Greg Lewis at third. And at second, freshman German Gonzalez and sophomore Jeff Kamei won 8-6 over Matt Hope and Brent Stevenson.
In singles play, Hersh won 6-2, 6-2 at first over Stutchin. Dauer did not drop a game at second as he beat Hope, 6-0, 6-0. Gonzalez won at third, beating Stevenson, 6-4, 6-0. At fourth, Kamei won 6-0, 6-2 over Chris Wyshock. Friedman lost just one game at fifth in a 6-0, 6-1 win over Dylan Marsh. And at sixth, Karjalainen beat Dean, 6-2, 6-1.
Hopkins returns to action on Sunday, April 3 as the Blue Jays host 17th-ranked Carnegie Mellon. The non-conference match is slated to begin at 11:00 am in Baltimore.
